I am the Founder Director at Deyu African, a non profit that solicits folk tales, literary works and disseminates articles that document culture and the arts in Uganda. This work has given me strong insight into challenges and opportunities that local film makers face in contributing to global culture.

Film has always been an interest of mine, because it is a powerful tool for storytelling. As a storyteller I have written poetry, short stories and flash fiction. My poetry has appeared in several anthologies published by the Uganda Association of Women Writers (FEMRITE); Beyond the Dance (2009) and Painted Voices (2008 and 2009). In 2010, I won the Beverley Nambozo Poetry Award.

I have also worked as a freelance correspondent for The East African newspaper, African Colours magazine and the Global Press Institute. I have never had a chance at learning to direct films, but I have shot amateur videos in an attempt to document traditions that may otherwise be lost. Prof. Hammerich’s masterclass is therefore an extraordinary opportunity to learn from an exceptionally talented director.
