Joanitta Wandera

Joanitta Bewulira-Wandera, has done extensive work in Television, Stage, Radio and Film as an actress, Director, Casting Director, as well as an Acting, Dialogue and Dialect Coach. A graduate from Panjab University in Chandigarh, India, she has worked on several nationally acclaimed television drama series, notably ‘Centre 4’ which was well received across Africa and Europe. She later went on to direct “The Hostel” for the debut season.

Joanitta has also worked on several Maisha filmlab short films like “The Black Hill”, “Must be a God fearing Christian Girl” and “Looserpool”. Other Ugandan films she has worked on include “Felistas Fable” by Dilman Dilla, and “Rain” produced by Matthew and Eleanor Nabwiso, which both opened to great critical acclaim, and have already won several Ugandan and international awards.

She has worked on several international films, including the Oscar winning ‘The last King of Scotland’, directed by Kevin McDonald and starring Forest Whitacker and James McAvoy, ‘Dwog Paco’ (‘Come back Home’) a documentary on child soldiers in the north of Uganda, ‘Looking for John Aki Bua’, a documentary on one of Uganda’s best known long distance runners, ‘Jamaa’ by Michael Landon Junior, ‘Africa United’ by director Debs Gardner Patterson, and the Disney film ‘Queen of Katwe’ which was directed by internationally renowned Director Mira Nair, and starred Oscar Award winner Lupita Nyongo (’Twelve years a slave’) as well as David Oyelowo, (‘Selma’). Joanitta acted as ‘Mrs Gali’.
